Publisher's Descriptions
autoID Password Manager uses 448 bit encryption and can type login information for you automatically. Basic auto-complete is also provided. autoID can be used to track names, passwords, credit cards, software serial numbers and confidential notes in an encrypted form. The password you assign to a file is the only key to retrieving its contents back. If you forget the password to a file, you might as well forget you ever had the file. There is no way to get it back.
In exchange for remembering one password, autoID will keep track of your important notes and passwords and it can even enter them for you automatically when you visit web sites that ask for a login name/password combination.
When you are on the web and come up to a site that requires you to log in, click on the name field and then press Option-Command-/ (Option-Command and Slash) at the same time. autoID will look up the current web page name in your most current autoID file and if a web address partially matches an entry in the Web Link field of a record, the name and password will be entered for you automatically. No more passwords to remember! OK, except for the password to your autoID file... but that is only one password.
For example, a Web Link field that has "yahoo.com" will match the web page for http://www.yahoo.com. If you have several logins in similar sites you may want to be more specific by having more detailed Web Link fields such as http://mail.yahoo.com or mail.yahoo.com
If the current web site is not in your passwords file autoID can instead enter your name and address information. Please set your Preferences for this.
How do I press Option-Command-/? Hold down the option key, then the Command (or Apple key, which is right next to the option key) and while still holding down those two keys press the forward slash (/) key. When you get good at it you actually press option and command with one finger.
At the time of this writing, autoID works correctly with the following browsers: Safari, Internet Explorer, OmniWeb, iCab, Mozilla, Firefox and Netscape.
How secure is my data?
autoID encrypts the contents of your file with a password supplied by you. Without this password the data cannot be obtained again or "decrypted". autoID uses an industry standard encryption algorithm called Blowfish, we use a 48-bit key at a minumum and 448-bit key as a maximum. The longer your password the bigger the key and the more secure the data is. The thing is, if you forget this password, we cannot get your data back. That is the purpose of this software...to keep things secret. The good news is that by remembering one password, you have secure access to many others besides notes and other things.
